Inter Allies came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with West African Football Academy at the Sogakope Park on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
The week 17 fixture of the 2014/15 First Capital Premier League saw Mumuni Zakaria struck first for the hosts early in the game, however, Evans Mensah came off the bench to grab the equaliser which earned Inter Allies a point.
Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin made two changes to the side that beat Liberty Professionals 1-0 in the Elite Cup on Wednesday.
Frederick Yamoah replaced Evans Mensah on the left side of attack, Sheriff Mohammed also replaced Eliasu Fuseini upfront to complete a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Both sides came to the match without a win from their respective previous games, WAFA had lost 2-0 to Wa All Stars and Inter Allies drew 1-1 with Berekum Chelsea, making the clash an exciting one with both sides eager to get a first win after the start of the second round of the season.
It didn’t take too long for WAFA to register their first goal after consistent pressure in the opening minutes, they had already missed several clear cut chances with just 10 minutes gone.
On the 11th minute they were rewarded with a beautiful Zakaria Mumuni’s goal.
The forward picked the ball from the right side, beat his immediate marker and then fired to the top left corner giving goalkeeper Osei Kwame no chance.
They held on to their possession and dominated for sometime but it was the ‘Eleven Is To One’ who settled down and started creating some chances of their own.
Niare Benogo could have gotten the equalizer some minutes before the end first half, Issah Yakubu made an impressive solo run from the right side of attack, he picked Niare in the box but the number 45 placed it low with little power for Felix Annan to punch away.
Both sides had their chances but it was WAFA who made theirs count at half time as they went to the break with a slim 1-0 lead.
The second half was a much more open affair, with opportunities at both ends. In what looked like a basketball game, the intensity and excitement of the game never dropped as both sides failed to sit back, it was an attacking game all through.
The ‘Eleven Is To One’ had grip of possession and enjoyed some period of fine football which led to the leveller in the 73rd minute.
Substitute Evans Mensah who had come on for Frederick Yamoah took a defender on in the penalty area and fired from an acute angle to beat Felix Annan.
Both sides failed to add to their tallies despite creating several goalscoring chances till the end of the game.
