The name Ropapa Mensah will go down in the history books of Nashville SC for scoring the first ever goal for the MLS franchise team and also emerging he Man-of-the-match for his side.
The young forward came off the bench at halftime and scored the first goal for Nashville SC in the 64th minute in their first game against Atlanta United SC on Saturday at First Tennessee State Park.
Ropapa who had long spotted the goalkeeper already after receiving a through pass from Alan Winn, chipped the ball over Atlanta goalkeeper Alec Kann.
The goal that was an equalizer later turned out to be Nashville’s consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat by Atlanta United in their pre-season friendly.
At age 20, Ropapa Mensah is the youngest player in Nashville SC’s squad and didn’t fail to show his excitement for the historic goal scored:
“I am happy because out of the whole Nashville SC team, I am the one who scored,” he told Nashville SC official website.
“We are so proud to have so many supporters behind the team.”
He scored seven goals and provided two assists in 2017 for Harrisburg City Islanders now Penn FC.
